California contractor bond requirements
California Business and Professions Code §7071.6 requires every CSLB-licensed contractor (active license) to keep a $25,000 contractor license bond on file with the CSLB.
In the CSLB License Master file (update of October 2026), 243,695 of 244,107 listed licenses (99.8%) show a $25,000 contractor bond. A small number show older amounts.
